BUCHLA FOR THE PEOPLE! 

Gur Milstein (TipTop), is working with Buchla under the consult of Todd Barton to reissue the legendary 200 system from the early 70's. The best part--the modules are affordable. I think that Don Buchla would be very proud to see the kind of legacy that he has left behind if it means that more people could afford to touch his creations.

Modular World will always stand with stories about people, and the passions that push them to stand out. Gur Milstein (TipTop) told me that working with Don's old schematics to recreate these designs has been the greatest honor of his professional life.

Introducing MODULAR SAN DIEGO. But first, a little history.

It's the end of an era in San Diego. And the birth of a new one. The modular scene in San Diego is alive and well, and we have been looking forward to this announcement for a long time. Modular on the Spot was founded in LA in 2015 with the concept of "modular only", a concept that never held any value for us in San Diego. But is it just semantics? Do we really have to change the name to move forward? Does anyone really care?

Yes, no, and no.

The bottom line is that we aren't interested in any type of exclusivity and gate keeping, and never were. We are here to make music and build community. Modular-centric? Absolutely. We love the art form. But exclusive? Never.

We are multi-instrumentalists interested in many forms of expression and here to encourage all human beings in a similar way. Whoever you are and however you make music---you are welcome and safe. Come join us!

I am very excited to introduce you guys something I have been working on with a help of John from Pulp Logic...

Both John and I are big fans of vintage Halliburton travel cases.

We both agree that converting this stylish travel case into Eurorack Modular travel case would be a really fun project. So far we have built 2 of them and we are expecting to do more in near future!

These cases complies with most Airline Carry On restrictions. So you can carry in to your airplane. They are probably the most durable cases available right now! Not only they are durable but super stylish as well… Yes, they are not cheap because there are a lot of time and effort spent to build each one one of them. Each case we find requires different modifications and planning…

I hope these beautiful cases will find a right home!!!

One of a kind eurorack modular case!

I used to work at vintage clothing store in NYC. One day customer brought in 2 Vintage　Halliburton travel case. That was the first time I actually learned about this cool travel case.

I fell in love with this space age/spy movie/durable design and aluminum material right away. Since then I always wanted one for myself but never had an opportunity for some reason.

In Eurorack modular world, case is essential to power up the module and also to protect modules…

Everybody spends hundreds of dollars on their modules but a lot of them don’t like to spend much on their cases… I have a completely opposite of that idea. I would want a case that’s durable and also shows your character and aesthetic.

That’s when I realized that I wanted to do make one of a kind case that’s beautiful and original, also strong. Vintage Halliburton case fulfilled all my needs on that. Indeed these cases are designed to survive tough condition on all sorts of traveling and on top of that they look cool. It will protect your modules and you will stand out at the show with this space looking design. You can find pictures of Beatles traveling with this case or Apollo 11 Astronauts carry moon rocks back to earth in a Halliburton case!!!

These cases are made for different scenarios. They are made as for traveling/camera equipment/business brief case… at BPNYC we would like to convert these cases into one of a kind Eurorack Modular Cases!!!

Here is how it works to build each one of this unique case:

1.finding a right size case that’s suitable for Eurorack.

2.get rid of unnecessary parts and clean up… (ie: brief case folders or whatever inside the case and sometimes stuff on outside)

3.removing original long hinges that connects top and bottom case and adding removable hinges(so that case top comes off). Also replacing all four feet to slightly taller ones so it doesn’t damage new hinges.

4.installing eurorack power bus, rails…

*Each case I find is in different condition so they all require slightly different jobs…

*There are a lot of small details to make each cases look nice and function properly~

All cases are already in vintage used condition so they all have scratches and imperfections but that’s part of the cool patina factor for these cases!

This particular one is probably from 60s… It’s in a great condition for a 60 year old case and will stay that way for another 60 years easily!
