Product Description

A variable-width bandpass filter with fast and tactile controls.

The Aperture is capable of simple filtering, self oscillation FM timbres, nasty acidic squelches, and capturing images of UFOs descending from the heavens on a cold winter’s night.  The concept is a bandpass that ranges from transparent to gnarly, with precision controls that behave under stress, all while being joyful to wreak havoc with.

The Aperture works very well as a part of a subtractive synthesizer voice paired with your favorite oscillator as well as a signal processing unit.  Use it as a Eurorack EQ by running drum loops or other program content with full a frequency range through it to help them sit in your mix a bit better.  Pinpoint the exact instruments by dialing in on a narrow frequency band.

Drive your sound and add unique rhythmic content by adding some feedback.  Sweep any one of it's parameters with direct CV control.

The Aperture is a versatile addition to any Eurorack live performance rig as it is a great sounding filter for bass, drums, leads, pads, and entire mixes as an end of chain filter.

This is filter more unique than most  standard multimode filters as it has both high-pass and low-pass filters ran in series.  Each filter is independently controllable in addition to the macro controls that control both sides at once.

The Aperture can be used in self oscillation as a screaming, wild sounding oscillator with it's 1V/oct input.  It tracks 4 octaves or so.  Not a precision oscillator by any means, but has a very unique tonal quality as it has two resonance points as well as feeback for the entire filter's circuit.

  • Variable bandwidth via tactile and CV controls
  • Eight pole filter core
  • Independent resonance and self oscillation of both sides of the filter with CV
  • Feedback circuit with two modes and CV
  • Input level VCA
  • Additional CV for opening the band either side of Center
  • V/oct tracking
  • Temperature compensated
  • Dry / Wet mix for parallel filtering sounds

*LEDs along the top indicate width and position of the filter

Frequency: Controls the center frequency
of the band

Width: Controls the width of the band.

Freq CV: Attenuverter for the CV input for precise
control over the Frequency of the filter.

HP Res: Controls the amount of resonance on the
High Pass side of the filter.

LP Res: Controls the amount of resonance on the
Low Pass side of the filter.

Input Level: Attenuates the input level.
Unity at 12o'clock, total gain of 6 dB
Feedback: Controls the amount of feedback for
more self oscillation and squelchy behavior.

Dry/Wet Mix: You know what this means ;)

Width CV: Attenuverter for CV control
over the width of the filter.

1V/ Oct: The aperture’s cutoff frequency will track
at 1V/oct. This is the input for that.

In LVL: Input for CV control over the input
level attenuation.

Freq: CV input for control over the cuttoff frequency.
Width: CV input for control over the width of the band.

FDBK: CV input for control over the feedback amount.

Input: This is where your audio signal you
want to filter goes.

Output: This is where the filtered audio
signal comes out.

HPCV: CV input for independent control over the
cutoff frequency on the high pass side of the filter.

LPCV: CV input for independent control over the
cutoff frequency on the low pass side of the filter.

HP Res: CV input for control over the resonance on the
high pass side of the filter.

LP Res: CV input for control over the resonance on the
low pass side of the filter.

Rossum Electro-Music Assimil8or and WMD Aperture - Patch Example (01:37)
The WMD Aperture is a super versatile Bandpass Filter in the Eurorack Format of modular synthesizers. In this video, we use the Aperture as a mixing tool to shape sound, and help a drum loop fit into an existing patch with a lot going on. Using the Filter as a sort of live Eurorack EQ, we isolate the high hats, and mid-range percussion just as a producer would do in the studio, however this is all in real time as if we were in the middle of a live performance. This is filter more unique than most standard multimode filters as it literally has an independent filter for both Low-Pass and High-Pass that can be controlled in a number of ways. The Aperture Filter has a variable width on the bandpass so you can really dial in the range of frequencies you want to hear. In this example, I cut out the lows first, cutting the bass drum out of the drum loop, and letting the kick drum on my other channel be loud and proud, with no interference or phase cancellation. After I have the bass frequencies souding right, I bring in some more instruments with high frequency contact (tambourine and claps). After that, I dial in the High-End by moving the width and Frequency knobs, using my ears to get the high hats and percussion in the loop to sit tight and pretty. Next I experiment with a bit of Feedback and send the Aperture in to a bit self oscillation. It is known for self oscillating out of control, but I really try and just emphasize the character of the filter and the drum loop. A perfect addition to your live modular synth rig, the Aperture is back in stock as we just completed a new batch. 00:00 - Raw Loop no sound processing 00:05 - adding the kick drum from another channel 00:10 dialing in low end 00:17 adding in higher frequency instruments 00:40 all out house jam 01:00 Feedback and tonal emphasis More information on Aperture at: https://wmdevices.com/products/aperture More info at https://wmdevices.com/ Facebook : https://www.facebook.com/WMDevices Twitter: https://twitter.com/wmdevices Instagram : https://www.instagram.com/wmdevices/
