Description

The Cyclic-Skew is a basic modulation source in the 1U Tile format. It has three modes of operation; Cycle mode “CYC”, Attack Release mode “AR” and Attack Sustain Release mode “ASR” which are set by the toggle switch on the front panel.

In cycle mode the Cyclic Skew operates as a variable shape LFO where you can set the speed “RATE” and the shape “SKEW” (ratio of rise to fall time). The LFO speed can be adjusted from around 0.1Hz (10 sec. per cycle) to just under 20Hz (50mS per cycle). The “SKEW” control can be continuously adjusted from a Sawtooth waveform (CCW) to a Ramp waveform (CW).

The “TRIG” input operates as a reset and will restart the LFO from the bottom of its cycle. The “EOR” (End of Rise) output generates a 10mS trigger each time the LFO reaches the peak output voltage.

In the “AR” and “ASR” modes the Cyclic Skew creates a one-shot envelope each time the “TRIG” input is asserted. If a new trigger/gate signal occurs before the envelope completes its cycle a new envelope will be started from the bottom of the cycle. In “AR” mode both triggers and gates are treated the same where the envelope is created on the rising edge of the input and the width of the gate is ignored.

In “ASR” mode the envelope will remain at the peak of its cycle as long as the input on the “TRIG” jack (gate) is kept high. Just like in “CYC” mode the “EOR” marks the moment the envelope reaches the peak voltage.

In the one-shot modes the “EOR” output can be used for a number of utility functions like trigger delay or as a gate to trigger converter. To make a trigger delay set the “SKEW” knob in the middle position and use the “RATE” rate knob to set the delay time. This will provide a range of delays from around 30mS to 5 seconds over the rotation of the rate knob. If more precision is needed or for very long or short delays the “SKEW” knob can be used to shorten or lengthen the range.

The output of the Cyclic Skew can be set to either Uni-polar or Bi-polar by means of a dip switch on the PCB.
